Who do you beleive when it comes to the real risks or safety standards of Genetically Engineeered (GE) and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)? Unfortunately too many people with powerful financial funding and incredible incentives are telling us they are safe and basically the same as non GMO foods. Common sense dictates GE and GMOs artificially altered by humans are different from those created by divine nature. There are many unanswered questions about long term serious environmental, health and safety issues from using GMOs.

Previous blog posts have addressed the importance of avoiding Genetically Modified Frankenfoods (anything with artificial or unnatural ingredients) but too many people continue to consume them without understanding the serious downsides and health risks involved. With new knowledge gained from the Food Revolution Summit, GMOs Revealed documentary, Dr Mark Hyman and the Organic Consumers Association this updated post will help shed additional education, information and light on a very dark and deliberately deceiving subject. Many people are harming their long term finances, health and quality of life by a lack of awareness about the dangers and long term health consequences of consuming GMOs. Due to a lack of transparent education and information most people are harming their health and the environment by purchasing and supporting the GMO Frankenfood industries. Even the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) seem to be complacent, confused, conspiring and corrupt in their policies and procedures regarding GMOs.

The many different hidden agendas, opinions and points of view regarding GE and GMOs causes confusion. With a little basic education, common sense and health information we will all be able to make better food choices and decisions regarding our health. If health and wealth are high priorities it is essential we make smart decisions about which foods to avoid and which foods to buy. GE and GMOs 101

FarmerMany people are consuming Frankenfoods made with GE and GMOs without awareness of the long term environmental and health consequences. Genetically engineered means changing the genetic code (DNA or RNA) which then alters the natural growth and outcome of an organism and even the organisms that consume it. Most genetic engineering occurs with gene splicing or radiation. This results in an unnatural GMO (GE canola, corn, cotton, soy or sugar beet) that is either resistant to certain chemicals such as a herbicide or it produces its own toxin (Bt corn). Beverages, foods and products containing these unnatural Frankenfood ingredients directly affect the quality of our environement and health. The massive use of chemical herbicides and pesticides is polluting our air, bodies, food, land and waters. Growing GE crops is drastically changing and damaging our farming practices and food support systems. Chemical and heavy metal contaimination and Frankenfoods with GMOs could be responsible for billions of dollars spent on chronic illness and obesity issues. Our health is our wealth and many people are choosing unhealthy Frankenfoods without knowing it.

What we eat and grow is intricately connected to all other aspects of our environment, health and well being. Unfortunately we live in a world where big corporations, mass media and special interest groups can use confusion, deception and misinformation for their profits before people position which can rob us of our long term health and well being. Did you know many developed countries ban GMOs and require ingredient labeling to help protect their citizens? Many even ban animals that have been fed GMOs. When will the US follow their leadership role?

Children should be learning the importance of buying, eating and growing a diverse array of locally produced, minimally processed, nutrient dense and organic whole foods. Unfortunately at home and in schools children are being brainwashed by advertisements, commercials and government agencies to consume Frankenfoods made with GMOs. Our body and mircobiome is made up of a complicated and elaborate matrix that affects every other cell in our body. Many companies are making big bucks by making Frankenfoods using GMO ingredients. Thanks to the power of independent information sources and the internet we are able to educate and inform ourselves with a wealth of information on holistic health and organic foods. While it can take an investment of time to read, research and review resources to become educated on healthy food choices the hard work has already been done for us. Healthy Food Principles

  • VeggiesAvoid GE and GMO Frakenfoods. Read all food ingredient labels to identify GE canola, corn, cotton, soy and sugar beets.
  • Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)
  • Avoid highly processed and refined fats and oils (canola, corn, cotton seed, peanut, saflower, soy and sunflower)
  • Buy in season and local first. Support your local organic farmers
  • Buy organic whenever possible. Environmental Working Group identifies foods with the most herbicides, insecticides and pesticides.
  • Consume a wide variety of colors of the rainbow whole foods.
  • Decide to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Buy and invest in organic and sustainable agriculture.
  • Every penny you invest/spend is a vote for healthy or unhealthy food choices.
