The 2015 Great NEWS posts are devoted to simple Healthy Habits to enhance our quality and quantity of life. Today’s post on Building Compressed Earth Block Homes is offered to educate, empower and excite people of the planet with an environmentally friendly and healthy home solution. Did you know that outdated architecture, building and construction methods and standards may be the single largest cause for wasted energy and fossil fuel consumption? Unfortunately our homes and housing are one of the most inefficient, unhealthy and wasteful products built today. Apartments, buildings, condos, dwellings, houses and manufactured homes using any combination of traditional bricks and sticks construction (also concrete, foam, framing, insulation, particle board, plastic, plywood, shingles, siding, wood, styrofoam etc) are inefficient. Billions of dollars are wasted on homes and housing that is cheaply built and inefficiently designed. They are sold by creating a snazzy appearance rather than focusing on long term durability, energy efficiency and functionality. Poorly constructed and designed housing are draining our emotions, finances and health. This post will share valuable information on Compressed Earth Block (CEB) Homes and why they are the perfect solution to the fossil fuel energy crisis, poorly constructed housing and sick building syndrome.

Blocks of Earth

Compressed Earth Block (CEB) Homes are the perfect solution to the fossil fuel energy crisis, poorly constructed housing and sick building syndrome.

In a previous post for Earth Day a shared simple suggestion included building with Compressed Earth Block (CEB) homes or also called Compressed Stabilized Earth Block (CSEB) homes. Readers were invited to imagine and visualize the benefits of a home that is virtually perfect because it is more bug proof, energy efficient, fire proof, sound proof, water proof and able to easily last for hundreds of years than most current conventional housing. This proven method could revitalize and revolutionize family home ownership, the home building industry  and residential communities around the globe.

A simple synchronicity occurred while discussing and investigating eco-design and eco-efficient construction for my future eco-village and wellness center in Belize. As the proud owner of 149 acres of pine ridge and rain forest land within the 750 acre Red Creek Biological Reserve in Stann Creek district of southern Belize it was important to build eco-conscious and eco-efficient housing. When my friend Ken McKenzie mentioned Compressed Earth Block (CEB) homes nothing really clicked. After he sent me a video featuring James Hallock discussing CEB construction it was obvious that this was meant to be and meant for me.

Texas Compressed Earth Block Home

Within a few weeks a job site visit was scheduled to meet Jim and see his team in action building a Compressed Earth Block (CEB) home in the hill country northwest of San Antonio, Texas. From the minute we met Jim and took a tour of his CEB house under construction it was apparent that Jim had discovered a better mouse trap and winning formula for eco-minded, green and sustainable home construction and design.

House

Compressed Earth Blocks are the winning formula for eco-minded, green and sustainable home construction and design.

This house was being build with the education, effort, enthusiasm and experience of a former bricks and sticks home builder determined and passionate about sharing a better way to build buildings. His detailed evaluation and explanation for building this house on the hill was that of a genius and master craftsman at work. After twenty years of blood, sweat and tears Jim is able to build, create and design a wide variety of building designs, sizes and styles with ease. This guy is an ecological and environmental genius when it comes to building great CEB buildings and homes.

Rather than hearing the basic details from me it is better to hear the entire presentation about The Future of Buildings directly from James Hallock an expert CEB builder. Listen as Jim explains the big challenges with the way modern home construction evolved and why we cannot continue to use this outdated model.

Healthy Habits

The Healthy Habits 2015 series offers simple suggestions and small steps to help maintain our environment and protect our planet.

Building, buying and designing energy efficient homes is one of the easiest and most important things that anyone can do for the environment and themselves. When you are thinking about a home or housing  now is the time to begin thinking about how much fossil fuel, money and water can be saved with a well designed eco-dwelling. The more people who adopt this healthy habit the more energy and resources we will save to create a better world for ourselves and future generations. Eco-construction, eco-design and eco-housing is one of the most important behaviors, habits and routines we can establish to protect our health and the health of our planet. When we realize that our daily choices and habits affect our happiness, health and well being we begin to see the benefits of building and buying smart homes that follow Compressed Earth Block (CEB) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines.

Every area of our emotional, financial, mental and physical health will benefit in the short and long term. We could take the money we are wasting on electric bills, fossil fuels and gas utilities and start investing that money for our family and financial freedom. To be happy, healthy and successful in life requires us to make better choices and decisions and this is one of the biggest financial decisions people make. Chose wisely since you will be paying up to thirty years for a mortgage and even longer for the utilities.

This Great NEWS post on Healthy Habits invites you to watch the James Hallock video about the Future of Building so you can be better informed and build better housing. When we each begin to demand better buildings and design we do our part to “be the change we want to see in the world” and help save our planet from further destruction and pollution.
