The last Great NEWS post began sharing Healthy Habits for Manifesting a Magnificent 2015 and today we begin focusing on a healthy habit for our body.  Our body is our temple and we must make it a top priority to be happy and healthy.  Dehydration is a health hazard.  To help insure success in all eight key life areas that determine our quality of life make daily hydration a healthy habit.

To enjoy a great 2015 we must begin by focusing more attention and energy on nurturing our beautiful body.   Since our body is made up of at least 70% water we must be continually attuned and aware to consume water upon awakening and throughout the day. This post is being written in January when it can be even more of a challenge to stay hydrated during the colder days of winter.

Hydration is a Key Healthy Habit

Water

During the day we can lose more than one liter depending on our level of activity, air conditioning, breathing, exercise, lifestyle and weight.

Our body loses water through defecation, respiration, perspiration and urination.   Most people are not aware of how much water they lose through respiration alone. While sleeping at night you can lose a pint to a quart of water depending on the humidity and temperature.   During the day we can lose more than one liter depending on our level of activity, air conditioning, breathing, exercise, lifestyle and weight.

Our brain gets confused, foggy and lethargic when we are dehydrated.  It is hard to use our body and mind for demanding activities like exercise, homework, learning and work when we are low on water. Water is a vital fuel and important solution for the transport of nutrients and waste essential to keep our body functioning for peak performance.

Our soul and spirit become less vibrant when we are running low on water.  The fact that numerous religious references are made to the importance of water for Baptism, bathing and blessings should be a clue regarding the benefits of water for our physical and spiritual health.

Our relationships suffer when we ignore the dangers of dehydration because we lack energy, enthusiasm and excitement for others. When we are low on water we feel drained and run down.  Happy and healthy relationships can flourish more easily when we and the people around us are properly hydrated and nourished.

It is easier to focus on our personal development and self growth when we have the energy and water to function at our best.   Peak performance requires optimal hydration and nutrition.

Our business, career and profession will be smoother when we have the energy and stamina gained from sufficient hydration.  While water seems like a little thing it is a giant factor that greatly influences our passion, profession and purpose in life which are key components of our happiness and health.

Even our finances are directly tied to our hydration.  When we become dehydrated and sick a resulting visit to an emergency room or hospital can cost many thousands of dollars for an Intravenous (IV) saline solution (salt and water) and treatment.   Dehydration is one of the leading causes and contributors to aches, constipation, disease, fever, headaches and sickness. Our hydration has a direct bearing on our actions and attitudes which ultimately determine our financial success.

When we have more than enough abundance in our life we are able to engage in many extra activities like taking planes, ships and trains to go to beaches, cruising, driving, hiking, sailing, scuba diving, skiing, traveling and vacations which can often lead to dehydration, physical exhaustion and stress.   Indirectly our abundance often leads to injuries and illness that is compounded from something as simple as dehydration.  Many people have ruined a good time by allowing themselves to become dehydrated which starts a downward spiraling chain reaction that can lead to dire consequences.

Simple System and Suggestions for Hydration

WaterWhen we follow proven principles we set our self up for success. All year long we must create a system to insure we are hydrated to maintain our happiness, health and harmony.

Following these simple steps and specific strategies helps insure you stay well hydrated every day.

  • Set a water bottle on the bathroom counter as a reminder.
  • Place reminder notes and pictures of beautiful water scenes on the calendar, computer, desk, refrigerator and screen saver. Remember…water, water everywhere to help remind you to drink and think water.
  • Have an electric tea pot on the counter with a mug next to it ready for warm water or tea. Ginger and hibiscus tea are fantastic.
  • Place a large glass water bottle in your vehicle. Avoid plastic bottles because when they get warm chemicals leach into the water.
  • Put a reoccurring reminder on your calendar, computer or phone to remind you to drink water.
  • Place a pinch of bicarbonate of soda or sea salt in your water to help stay alkalized and energized.
  • Add fresh cinnamon stick, clove, ginger, lemon, lime or mint to your water for a refreshing taste.
  • Check the color and frequency of your urine. Anything other than almost totally clear is an indication of dehydration.  The more color you see the greater your level of dehydration.  Going more than three hours without urinating is a sign of dehydration.
