Have you invested the time to research and see for yourself if too little or much salt is a challenge for you? There may be much more to the salt story then you are hearing and being led down the wrong path. Sea salt contains many components that are essential for perfect health. We all need to be acutely aware and educated with important information regarding our body’s requirement for the correct quality and quantity of salt we consume in order to make our best choices and decisions. Today we share some important considerations to help you determine and decide Is Salt a Health Hazard or is it essential for health.

Sea Salt

Sea salt contains many components that are essential for perfect health.

The Great NEWS Coach Health Hazard series is shared to help people be even more aware of common health hazards in order to make common sense choices. Many conditions in our modern world are harming our health. How we choose to respond will determine our level of happiness and health. Many people lack awareness regarding small everyday decisions that affect key areas of our life. Our behaviors, beliefs and biology run our brain and life in the same way that programmed hardware, software and operating systems run a computer. Healthy lifestyle choices help us to choose wisely.

Is Table Salt a Health Hazard?

Salt comes from many sites and sources such as: evaporation ponds, industrial processing plants, salt domes, salt flats, sea weeds, under ground mines and wells. Originally these sources were mostly clean, natural and pure. Unfortunately many sources of salt are adulterated or contaminated due to human influence. People have been very poor guardians of the air, earth, soil and water which results in our oceans and salt sources being contaminated. Many people still do not realize we live in a closed ecosystem bubble which directly influences all life in the bubble. Thus every living organism is affected by the ecology and environment impact we create.

In the previous post we learned about all the chemicals and compounds affecting our drinking water and today we look at similar factors impacting our salt consumption. Many people are starting to believe that salt is not healthy and may actually be harmful and toxic.

Shaker of Salt

Consuming contaminated slat as well as too little salt can put us and our family at risk.

When we invest the time to understand the important role that salt plays in all living organisms we begin to see how essential it is and why the quality is so important. Many people would be horrified and shocked to see what is being done to our key salt sources. Consuming contaminated slat as well as too little salt can put us and our family at risk. Most people pour salt from a container or shaker without giving the purity and source a second thought. Not knowing the additives, quantity, processing and source of salt may expose you to serious risks and side effects.

Many dieticians, doctors, hospitals, nurses and nutritionists are saying to avoid or reduce salt consumption. Companies add massive amounts of salt to the foods you consume yet we are kept in the dark about the purity, source or type of salt they are using. There are no standards when it comes to the salt added to hamburgers, can foods, crackers, French fries, meats, potato chips, soups and vegetables. How do you know and measure how much salt you are consuming on a daily basis?

Many Salt Supplies Are Polluted

Many different sources are responsible for polluting our oceans which is the source for a large amount of sea salt found around the world. While food companies and the government are promoting the quality and safety of our food we have minimal if any information about the quality and quantity of salt added to our foods. Many times the salt is knowingly contaminated with a wide variety of chemicals, compounds and heavy metals.

Table Salt

We are told the table salt is pure and safe to eat even when they are adding anti caking and flow agents and heating the salt to high temperatures which changes the crystal structure.

We are told the table salt is pure and safe to eat even when they are adding anti caking and flow agents and heating the salt to high temperatures which changes the crystal structure. Did you know that sodium and chloride are only two of the many minerals and trace elements found in normal sea salt from salt water? Consuming excess amounts of these two minerals can cause major health issues and even death. This is why we are starting to receive warnings about salt consumption without clear guidelines and information to help us make better choices. Table salt is Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and highly heated, processed and treated product. It is only one version of salt available on the market today.

Any one with common sense will realize that consuming too much of any single element is not a good thing and can be harmful. Soon more people will understand that consuming a low quality salt is not a good idea. Have you researched your source of salt and looked at the purity and safety of it? The vast majority of people never even question their salt safety or source.

Is Sodium Chloride Safe and Smart?

Common sense would indicate there is no one way to easily determine the exact amount of salt that is safe to consume by simply offering a Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) like the FDA recommendation for vitamins and minerals. Even though we have been brainwashed into believing that they know what is best for us does not make it so. Each person is comes from a unique combination of climate, composition and conditions that is constantly changing.

Who Is Telling the Truth About Salt?

Most people are complacent and compliant about drinking approved tap water. It is essential to understand the details and difference between sea salt and table salt that has been treated with additives, chemicals and heat.

Salt

It is essential to understand the details and difference between sea salt and table salt that has been treated with additives, chemicals and heat.

There are many different types of salts. Most people are familiar with common table salt (NaCl).  Common table salt is composed of two basic elements sodium and chloride. Most commercial sodium chloride sold is produced for industrial use. It is commonly used for water softeners, salt water pools, de-icing on highways and other industrial uses. If you can sell this to the public for consumption at a high price extra revenue can be created.

On the other hand sea salt replicates all the minerals and trace elements found in the ocean. These are the minerals and trace elements that our body craves and needs for optimal functioning and holistic health. There are approximately ninety minerals and trace elements in salt water from the ocean and therefore in most sea salt which results in the deposits of these minerals after the ocean water evaporates.

Over the centuries when land would recede or rise it could result in ocean water evaporating and leaving vast deposits of sea salts. Many deposits of sea salts are on the surface while many others are underground. When looking for sea salt they often dig underground mines and find the salt is pure and uncontaminated from pollution like: acid rain, chemicals, heavy metals, oil spills and radiation.

Some of the most common types of sea salt used today are from salt water evaporation ponds or underground mines. Himalayan pink sea salt comes from mines in the Himalayan area such as Pakistan. There is also a pink sea salt that comes from Utah called Redmond salt. There is a black salt sea salt from Hawaii and a salt with high sulfur from India. As you can see there are many different types of sea salt that come from different sources.

There is also Celtic Sea salt from sea water that is put into evaporating ponds and harvested after evaporation. The challenge with some of this Celtic Sea salt is the fact that it can be polluted with agricultural runoff of chemicals, fertilizers, heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides and pharmaceuticals.  Heavy metals like cadmium, lead and mercury and pollution from numerous chemical and oil spills have resulted in vast areas used for Celtic Sea salt evaporation ponds to be contaminated.

Sea Salt Versus Table Salt

One of the downsides to table salt is that consuming sodium chloride throws off the delicate balance in our blood and has been linked to high blood pressure. Unfortunately many doctors recommend that their patients reduce their intake of salt but usually do not specify table salt which is not a natural salt with the high level of sodium and the chloride and absence of other minerals. Excess salt causes us to excrete water and when we excrete too much water our blood becomes thicker and our blood pressure goes up. Sea salt on the other hand may be ideal because it is a balanced and normal blend of minerals and trace elements that occur naturally in the ocean and is similar in our blood.

Salt

Many experts feel pure raw sea salt is the optimal form of salt for human and animal consumption because it provides a wide spectrum of the minerals and trace elements our body is craving and depends on for proper function.

Many experts feel pure raw sea salt is the optimal form of salt for human and animal consumption because it provides a wide spectrum of the minerals and trace elements our body is craving and depends on for proper function. Sea salt can also be heated to high temperatures to dry it out and this would be a type of sea salt to avoid. The best sea salt might be one sourced from an underground mine or the result of sea water naturally evaporated from ponds. The high temperature for drying is problem with typical table salt. The sodium chloride being heated to very high temperatures results in a change in the molecular structure of the salt crystals which results in an unnatural crystal.

This is another reason we should consume evaporated sea salt water that is not been heated to high temperatures so it maintains the normal crystal structure that exist in nature. While it seems like a small distinction heating salt to high temperatures or any product for that matter is not healthy because the high heat breaks down and changes the composition and structural integrity of the food antioxidants, enzymes, minerals, molecules, trace elements the phyto- nutrients and vitamins.

This is a key reason many people are now being very conscious about consuming raw beverages and foods. We are better maintained, nourished and supported when consume raw foods and sea salt. Many people feel that the best sources are the underground mines that have been protected from pollution for tens of thousands of years.

Another important factor regarding salt is being aware of the amount of table salt normally added to highly processed and refined foods like fake, fast and junk foods and in fast food establishments and restaurants. Canned and packaged foods often use a lot of table salt for flavoring and preservation. Unfortunately most of the salt used is the unhealthy low cost table salt therefore we must be very aware and cautious of the amount of table salt being consumed which can effect our blood pressure and our health.

We do not want to avoid all salt because those minerals and trace elements are essential for many body and brain functions. Therefore be sure to find good sources of sea salt and carefully add it to your foods and intake. A good option is to put a small pinch of sea salt in your water or directly on your food so you taste the salt directly. This is better than diluting the salt in food where you may not taste it and have no idea how much was added. Putting a little pinch of sea salt in the water you taste the salt and will naturally use less. Putting it on avocado or vegetables allows you to taste the salt and get what the body craves and needs without applying too much. It is very important to consume adequate amounts of water before consuming salt.

Now you should have a better awareness of the importance of sea salt and the health hazard associated with table salt. One important consideration in relation to salt is consuming adequate amounts of iodine. It is an essential mineral that our body needs and iodine is important for proper thyroid function. Many people are deficient in iodine which can result in thyroid and other health issues.  Sodium chloride with iodine is not the best choice as sea salt and sea weeds are definitely better options since they naturally provide the iodine our creator intended.

Seaweed

Seaweed is particularly great at providing us with the natural minerals and trace elements we need.

Sea foods like fish, sea weeds and squid contain iodine and are some of the best sources. Seaweed is particularly great at providing us with the natural minerals and trace elements we need. These sources will actually help us maintain proper health and nutrition and a normal blood pressure as long as we are consuming enough water, eating healthy foods and exercising.

Salt is lost through perspiration so people in a hot climate or who exercise a lot outdoors and perspire a lot they may have to slightly increase their sea salt consumption

This post offers education on natural ways to enhance our health, immune function and vitality. The goal is to help us stop doing things that harm our health and start doing things that help our health.  Table salt with anti caking agents, heat treated and without sufficient minerals and trace elements is not adequate for optimal health. When we realize that raw sea salt is a more complete and premium source for maintaining and repairing our body we should see significant improvements in our health and well being.

My goal for sharing these valuable life lessons learned over many years is to stop the harmful effects of low quality products like table salt and start using helpful high quality sea salt instead. One of the healthiest beverages to consume is filtered water or spring water spiked with lemon, sea salt and sunlight.
