The original blog post shared my top ten tips to help maintain a peak performance physiology for life. It offered short summaries regarding simple suggestions for Maintaining Alignment, Muscles and Posture to prevent physical challenges from becoming worse.  A few sentences are often not enough to inform, influence and inspire you to take adequate action therefore this post is offering a reminder and more detailed explanation of one tip that will help improve the quality of your life now and for the future.

Many people share with me ongoing aches and pains that refuse to go away. These may have resulted from a number of individual or collective causes. Even if you have not experienced this yet, applying these suggestions may help prevent them from occurring. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Common contributors include: bad posture, car accidents, chair design, child birth delivery issues, computer monitor placement, couches, ergonomics, falls, high heels, imbalanced muscle development, improperly fitting shoes, injuries, low quality shoe inserts and support, mattress/ sleep problems, military service injuries, overdeveloped muscles, pillow size, poor alignment, posture, sports injuries, stress, tight muscles and tendons, underdeveloped muscles, unnatural gait running and walking and many more.   Many things can directly and indirectly cause annoying pains and problems.

In Maintaining Alignment, Muscles and Posture Tip 5 we shared about Power Plate for Perfect Health. This is a great technique and tool to help you balance, exercise, lymphasize, massage, recover, rehabilitate, relax, rejuvenate, stabilize, train and much more

Vibration Training

Vibration training has become a fairly common recommendation for beauty, fitness, physical therapy, prevention, rehabilitation, professional sports and wellness applications.

It appears that the first use of Whole Body Vibration (WBV) may have started with Dr. John Kellogg at his sanitarium in the US in the late 1800s. He used vibrating bars, chairs and platforms as part of his wellness routine for patients.

Then it seems to have been rediscovered by Dr. Biermann from East Germany who used it for cyclic massage therapy in the 1960s.  Some information indicates that over time it was refined for exercise and fitness training for flexibility and strength by German and Russians athletes. Later it was utilized by the Russian space program to help improve cosmonaut bone density and muscle mass after space flights.

These days there are many variations of vibration equipment designed to offer mechanical stimulation of bone and muscle tissue for the purpose of improved flexibility, power, recovery, strength and tone. Vibration training has become a fairly common recommendation for beauty, fitness, physical therapy, prevention, rehabilitation, professional sports and wellness applications.

A word of caution to the wise is “caveat emptor” which means “Let the buyer beware.” Be aware of the quality and varieties available and do your homework before choosing a vibration machine since there is a great deal of difference in the deliverable results, details and durability of various machines. Many machines on the market are low cost imitations of higher priced machines that may not be able to deliver comparable benefits.

Power Plate

The Power Plate is an exercise, fitness and wellness machine that has many applications. It may be one of the best comprehensive and overall forms of training for alignment, muscles and posture.  The data and history are quite impressive and it is definitely worth checking out.

The principle behind this technology is explained by the formula Force = Mass x Acceleration. Power Plate creates a force by accelerating your body (aka mass). So instead of adding weights, we simply move you to create forces up to an equivalent of six G’s.  You can also use cables and weights for additional exercise options.

Another component to discuss is frequency which is defined as how many times the plate surface moves per second. An optimal range for whole body vibration is between 25-50hz. Higher frequencies are better for increasing blood flow and massage, while lower are better for balance, core and strength training.

Power Plate’s founding father was Guus Van der Meer a Dutch Olympic trainer who was the first to use this technology of whole body vibration and adapt it for elite athlete training.

Power Plate’s founding father was Guus Van der Meer a Dutch Olympic trainer who was the first to use this technology of whole body vibration and adapt it for elite athlete training. Today power plate has spread to more than 100 global offices which has resulted in thousands of passionate power plate users.

Power Plate is the marquee brand in the whole body vibration line up. The technology was used by cosmonauts to combat bone and muscle loss caused by extended days in zero gravity. Today we supply products and training for health clubs, home use, medical facilities and professional sports teams.

It may well be the ultimate wellness solution for all ages, lifestyles and physical abilities. The benefits of whole body vibration provided by Power Plate is great for agility, balance, bone mineral density, flexibility, massage, relaxation, strengthening and toning.

Whole body vibrations stimulate the effect of muscle pumping motions and cause an increase in blood-flow with an improvement of the ability and capacity for:

  • Carbon Dioxide / Oxygen exchange
  • Discarding waste (lactic acid)
  • Energy (macro nutrients)
  • Vitality (micro nutrients)

Recent studies have shown that using Power Plate for acceleration training combined with a healthy diet offers an improvement in weight loss when compared to conventional diet and exercise alone.

Professional athletes in baseball, tennis and other sports are using it to improve endurance, flexibility, power, recovery time, rehabilitation and strength. Using a Power Plate for acceleration training stimulates fast-twitch muscle fibers. Athletes are benefiting from a dramatic increase in explosive strength, muscular endurance, overall agility, range of motion and stability.

A key benefit of Power Plate training is that workouts are shorter. This is because whole body vibration triggers more muscle fibers to be engaged during each exercise. For example when set at 30 hertz for 30 seconds your muscles are contracting and relaxing approximately 900 times.

When you observe a Power Plate machine vibrate you won’t be able to see it move even though the plate is moving up to a few millimeters at up to 50 times per second. This movement accelerates your body weight and creates additional force rapidly.

Now that you understand the science behind the Power Plate it is time to focus on the pure potential this machine offers.  Imagine being able to achieve a great work out or therapeutic massage in a few minutes versus an hour. Think about being able to exercise every cell in your body simultaneously. What about the potential for improving bone mineral density while getting stronger and toned?  Also remember you can use the Power Plate for enhanced recovery, rehabilitation and relaxation when combined with other exercise and fitness activities.

What if the Power Plate helped you feel better, look better, play better and work better? Sounds like a winning combination. It may be one of the best investments you make for your health.
