Yes to Yoga

In 2015 the Great NEWS posts are dedicated to sharing Healthy Habits and today we focus on Yoga.   Our body is like a terrific temple that provides transportation for our being during life. In order for us to be happy, healthy and in harmony in each area in our wheel of life we must do our part to maintain and sustain our body.  This involves doing whatever it takes to help it stay agile, aligned, balanced, energized, fit, flexible, mobile, stable, strong and toned.  One of the best healthy habits is a daily Yoga practice.

To enjoy a great life it is wise to develop a regular habit of energizing exercise like yoga to keep both our body and brain functioning flawlessly for optimal health and peak performance.  Yoga is one of the most beneficial forms of exercise to maintain both our body and brain because it has so many advantages compared to conventional exercise.

A daily yoga routine can significantly improve our quality of life.  It is easy to do anytime and anywhere.  Yoga does not require a lot of space or expensive equipment.  It does not need to take much time or require extensive training.  It does not even require you to travel to an exercise facility, gym, yoga center or workout facility.

We can use yoga to improve our fitness and health while lying on the floor, sitting in a chair or standing around.  January is the perfect time to begin your daily yoga practice because it is a great way to exercise every bone, joint, ligament, muscle and tendon in your body in a way that will rejuvenate, repair and revitalize every cell in your body.

Many of you have tried yoga and may be doing it several times a week. Yoga is a great energizing exercise to help us reenergize, rejuvenate, relax, repair, reprogram, restore and revitalize our body and brain.  When we practice yoga on a daily basis we will begin to see some amazing benefits and results within a short period of time.  Yoga provides our body the Tender Loving Care (TLC) we deserve and desire for perfect health and happiness.

Body and Brain Benefits of Yoga

Yoga

Yoga can help maintain both our body and brain at the same time with easy to do yoga poses and postures.

Our brain often becomes very agitated and distracted from the everyday strain and stress factors that wear us down.  This can lead to unhealthy behaviors that cause our body to become sad, sick, stressed and tired.  Yoga can help maintain both our body and brain at the same time with easy to do yoga poses and postures.  When people become inactive from too much sitting their bones, joints, ligaments, muscles at tendons can atrophy and begin slowly wasting away.  Soon aches and pains become common and then comes the almost inevitable weight gain from accumulating fat.

Without a daily exercise routine most people will begin to mentally and physically decline from a loss of bone density, muscle mass and physical fitness.   This decline combined with drinking unhealthy beverages and eating unhealthy foods reduces our quality of life and shortens our quantity of life.

Many people say they are too busy and too tired to exercise.  That is why yoga is the perfect solution.  Yoga does not require any additional time and actually helps you feel calm yet energized.   You may be asking how can that be true.  Yoga can be done in a chair or while talking on the phone.  It can be done while watching TV or listening to CD’s with audio books, education, music, relationship or self growth information.  Of course we may become so hooked on yoga we give up the Cable or TV shows to benefit more from our yoga practice for exercise and fitness.

For those that have compelling values, vision and rules for energizing exercise they find time.  For those that have higher demands and priorities like:  avoiding exercise, chatting on the phone, consuming alcohol, eating fake, fast and junk foods, drinking sodas, gossiping, long commutes sitting, overeating, reading fiction and romance, sitting for hours, watching TV.

A great way to learn yoga is to join a yoga class at a church, college, community center, fitness center, health club, school, senior’s center, temple, YMCA or yoga center.  You can even find many great DVD’s that offer excellent guidance and instruction.    Finding a great role model and yoga teacher is important to avoid any injuries or unhealthy habits.

Yoga helps to align our body, mind and spirit to better maintain our health and well being.  It has been found to help by aiding digestion, calming the mind, enhancing our endocrine system and endorphins, improving immune function, promoting a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, strengthening our entire body and supporting restful sleep.

There are many different philosophies and styles of yoga.  All yoga can help to create a positive biofeedback loop that reinforces our beliefs, behaviors and biology toward help maintain a healthy lifestyle.  The key is to discover a form or variety of yoga that works best for you.

Practicing yoga for thirty minutes a day is enough to see significant long term benefits.  Developing a regular routine of youth enhancing yoga will lay a solid foundation for a happier and healthier lifestyle. When you have an additional few minutes here and there throughout the day you can engage in some quicky yoga poses or postures. As long as you have a variety of yoga postures that provide high, intermediate and low intensity exercise options you will be able to maintain and sustain the entire body.

Our mind will benefit from the calm atmosphere and low intensity training yoga can offer.  The brain performs better when our body is trained to be active, calm, energized and fit.  Yoga will help our mind benefit from emotional, mental and physical well being that results in our life.

Our spiritual life can really benefit from investing some time engaged in the practice of yoga.  It is easier to inspire and nurture our spirit when we invest time to provide TLC.  Spiritual health is as important as any other area of our wheel of life.
