Dancing to be Happy Healthy and Wise

Dancing is a simple energy psychology technique to boost your emotional, mental, and physical health and well-being. It is a great way to make everyday leisure and life more enjoyable. Our emotions and psychology shifts when we shift our focus to the music, patterns rhythms, and steps need to participate in a dance routine. Big benefits can come from small steps and dancing is setting our steps to specific music and rhythm. Dancing is the art and science of combining synchronized movements, music, and steps by our self, in a group or with a partner.

Dancing is a great way to enjoy emotional, mental, and physical benefits as you allow yourself the freedom and pleasure to let yourself go. Dancing is probably one of the oldest celebrations and community parties humans have created to have fun and be a bit crazy and wild. Dancing shifts us from out of the head and into the body to reconnect with our primal and primordial spirit and state. The benefits of dancing are backed by research that shows that humans go into an altered state of being which can change our chemistry, endorphins, hormones, and mental state.

The benefits of dancing include:

  • Energy enhancement
  • Feelings of being more connected and community-oriented
  • Increase endorphin and mental boost
  • Memory and mental clarity, focus, and plasticity
  • Mood enhancement
  • Refined coordination and motor skills

Basic Dancing

My first dancing memory is when I was in elementary school. Both left good and long-lasting impressions and memories that greatly influenced my enjoyment of dance and music. I started school in 1959 while living in Japan and the teacher was having the class dance to different types of music and dance styles popular in the United State. Maybe it was a way for her to help connect us back to our families and friends in the United States. I was also able to watch traditional Japanese ceremonies and dance so it was an interesting contrast and education to experience.

My next memory was at a wedding reception and people were doing Country and Western and Polka dancing. People of all ages were having a great time on the dance floor moving to the music of the band. Dancing is a great way to quickly create a shift in our body and brain. It can also offer better awareness, energy, mood, and performance for kids, adults, and seniors.

There are so many methods and styles of dancing that are easy to do and easy to learn. Like anything in life, the key is to just start dancing and then enjoy the results. Just do five minutes of dancing twice a day to your favorite music for 21 days and see how it helps you feel. Maybe that is enough to have you convinced and committed for life. Maybe try several different music types to see if one type influences you more than another.

Over time you will likely be able to find music that perks you up in the morning better than coffee without the negative side effects. Then you may find different dances and music to enjoy that calms your mind and relaxes your body after a stressful day.
