Wishing you a Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas 2020, and an early Happy New Year for 2021!

In my experience and model of the world and based on reliable research, resources, and role models it seems there are gifts from Mother Nature all around us. One example is magical and medicinal pine trees that help boost our spirits, especially during the holidays. (BTW artificial trees are nice, save time and save trees, but the smell of essential oils from a real pine tree has the ability to boost our mood and lift our spirits in magical ways). Do you put up an artificial tree, no tree or real tree for the holidays? We bought our first full-size artificial tree this year and while it looks good and was easy, without the pine tree smell, it feels like the magical and medicinal benefits seem to be absent…so some pine essential oil comes to the rescue.

How are your mindset and moods affecting you during these crazy coronavirus conditions? Some of you may be in a beautiful state while others are saying Bah Humbug to 2020. Many people are feeling more strain, stress, and struggles this year than any year in recent memory. Many people look forward to the holidays to help lift their spirits. If you feel like this year has been cursed, hexed, and jinxed you are not alone. In fact, many people are eager for 2020 to end so they can move on to a better new year without the Crazy C19 days. It is hard to think about our health and longevity when each day seems to be filled with depressing news, economic shock, grim hospitalization statistics, infection rates, and Operation Warp Speed.

Does the Grinch or Scrooge in you limit your beliefs about something as simple as a pine tree in the home helping to boost your mood and well being? Maybe Christmas trees can help provide some magical and medicinal benefits for boosting our emotional, mental, and physical health. Many people know that our sense of smell is one of our strongest senses and it can directly connect and link feelings, images, and memories in our body and brain. Many food and health experts know that certain scents are neurologically and psychologically linked to our emotions and feelings. Pine tree oils and resins have been found to be some of the most positive and potent mood-altering scents known to humans.

Today we will share some insights into ways that magical and medicinal pine trees may help us be even more happy, healthy, and resilient during the holidays. During these crazy coronavirus conditions, it may be good to invite some magical and medicinal gifts from Mother Nature into our homes that can boost our spirits as well as maybe provide bonus health and wellness benefits. Our goal today is to share the many benefits of pine trees that may offer natural healing, hope, and joy.

“Not only do pine trees offer a wide assortment of magical, medicinal, and nutritional benefits to help support our overall emotional, mental, and physical well-being, they also offer some holidays stress reduction and traditional benefits for the Holidays and the entire winter season.” — Michael Morningstar

Many people are feeling dejected, down and dreary during these crazy coronavirus conditions and are eager for techniques and tips that can help cheer them up and reduce their stress naturally without the hangover or health risks associated with alcohol and synthetic drugs. They want something that is easy, effective, and efficient at boosting their spirits and Mother Nature perfectly provides pine trees with magical and medicinal benefits. Pine trees are the answers to our prayers for helping us shift our emotional and mental state to feel happier and healthier.

Not only do pine trees smell great but they can also produce some delicious and nutritious beverages and foods. Have you ever heard of pine bark and needle medicinal tea or pine nuts? Pine bark and needle medicinal teas have been reported to provide many potent antibacterial compounds, anti-cancer compounds, antioxidants, minerals, polyphenols, phytonutrients, and vitamins that can help boost our health. Pine trees have been used for thousands of years and there are historic records of many indigenous and native cultures using the inner bark of pines for food and medicine during lean times and winter when food was scarce. Even pine cone seeds are a food and medicinal source rich with minerals and nutrients.

Other great evergreen trees that have been used as medicinal sources are cedar, juniper, and spruce trees. Juniper berries are a nutrient-dense food and a delicious spice. The essential oils of cedars and junipers have been used for medicinal reasons for centuries. There is something magical about the scent of cedar, juniper, and pine trees and their essential oil that alters and boosts our emotional, mental, and physical state. Other famous holiday essential oils and resins from trees are frankincense and myrrh which have been associated with anointing holy oils with magical and medicinal properties. Eucalyptus and tea tree are other famous tree essential oils with long histories of having magical and medicinal benefits.

DIY Disclaimer: Common sense recommends you use good judgment and find a reliable expert and consult a doctor, herbalist, or Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor to advise you first before ingesting items that are new to you. Pregnant women may want to avoid certain essential oils, herbal and medicinal plants without double-checking first for safety.

For those interested to enjoy the amazing benefits of pine tree tea begin to think like a herbalist, medicine man, Native American, or pilgrim and turn to Mother Nature for the magic and medicinal benefits found in pine trees. One of my favorite cold and flu season flu shot teas is a pine tree tea. Pine tree tea is easy to make and includes pine tree bark, pine needles, cinnamon, clove, ginger, juniper berries, honey (raw), lemon or lime juice and zest (fresh is best), MSM, and water. First I brew the pine bark and needles for one hour on the lowest temperature setting possible. The lower temperature helps extract the medicinal compounds without too much heat and breaking down the beneficial compounds. Next, remove the pine bark and needles, add in all the other ingredients and spices and let it simmer for 30 minutes and then turn off the heat and let it sit for another hour. Think of this as a magical and medicinal holiday wassail recipe without all the fruit juice and sugar.

BTW always source clean pine bark and needles from broken branches or healthy trees without damaging the tree excessively. Another option that is super easy is to use Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) a sulfur compound often made from pine trees in your green drinks and teas. Here is another article about the many benefits and sourcing of pine needle tea.
