The 2015 Great NEWS posts enjoy sharing Healthy Habits to enhance our body, mind and spirit.  Today’s post is on my recent package of Mountain Rose Herbs for Health and will offer a brief overview and summary. Just unpacking the box was exciting as I looked at each package of organic herbs that will soon be enhancing my health and well being. By herbs I am referring to various bark, berries, flowers, leaves, mushrooms, nuts, roots, seeds, stems and other plant parts that can be used for health and medicinal benefits. Many people call the plants in the fields and their yards weeds when in reality they are beneficial and edible herbs. Herbs can help improve our health by helping us consume valuable antioxidants, enzymes, essential oils, minerals, phyto-nutrients, trace elements and vitamins to help maintain and sustain our health and vitality long term. These can help protect us from the ravages of chemicals, EMFs, free radicals, pollution, radiation, stress and toxins we are exposed to on a regular basis. Consuming and using healthy herbs may be one of the earliest forms of medicine. Herbs provide a great supplement to help support our health and wellness. This post will share some of my favorite herbs and offer simple suggestions to help you begin a healthy herb habit.

Herbs are extremely powerful because they are wild foods designed by mother nature to provide our body with nourishment and support.

As mentioned in previous blog posts there are many essential oils and herbs that have been found to have specific beneficial preventative and restorative properties for our health. Herbs are extremely powerful because they are wild foods designed by mother nature to provide our body with nourishment and support. When we consume herbs we give our self the gift of the beneficial properties and protection that herbs has evolved with to survive and thrive is a harsh world. Using herbs transfers some of this potent power to us so we can receive the same or similar benefits.

Herbs have evolved with very complex structures and systems in place to defend themselves from attack by bacteria, bugs, fungus, insects, molds, predators and viruses. Consuming these herbs allows us to use and utilize these same or similar natural complex chemicals and compounds for our own composition and complex defense systems. This enables us to survive and thrive against the odds and organisms that would assimilate us if they had the opportunity.

All health issues start at the cellular level and herbs help to feed and fuel our cells with all the various macro and micro nutrients we need. We have a very long history of using herbs for health. Hippocrates is recognized as the Father of Medicine. He is quoted as saying, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” There are numerous references from that time to the use of herbs for healing and health. Back in those days there were no synthetic chemical pills and potions. People relied on herbs, holistic health and nutrition to deal with any health issues. Herbs were obviously know even way before the time of Hippocrates. In ancient Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs played a significant role in their health practice.

Learning about herbal health simple requires a basic understanding of the nutritional needs of our body and then learning and seeking the herbs that will help meet our health and nutritional needs. With a genuine desire to learn the herbs will reveal their secrets and wisdom to us over time. Many herbs and wild foods has specific properties referred to the Doctrine of Signatures which offers clues to the medicinal and nutritional benefits they provide. It is very helpful to refer to this doctrine when seeking to find which herbs will provide the best results. By paying attention and tuning in to herbal gardens and wild foods we will naturally be attracted to the plants that offer us specific substances we support for our health and well being. Herbs can help with providing natural nutrition and super supplement support.
