That blog post was inspired by a Trans-Atlantic 15-day trip in 2013 on the Mariner of the Seas (RCCL cruise) from Galveston, Texas, to Barcelona, Spain. We sailed on a Trans-Atlantic cruise from Lisbon, Portugal to Florida in October 2025, so it seemed like a great time to create a new and updated blog with new distinctions and life lessons learned about avoiding the cruise dirty dozen detrimental factors that damage, destroy, and downgrade our health.  With over 30 years of experience in health coaching and 143 days of cruising, I may be qualified to offer some words of wisdom on food choices and healthy habits.

With many new cruise ships being launched, more people are giving cruise vacations a try. Cruising can be an enjoyable all-inclusive vacation, but it can also be a binge, belly-busting bulge, and big bad bellyache. Cruising requires some extra planning, preparation, and positive programming in order to enjoy a happy and healthy trip.  A Code of Conduct can help. Not being prepared can result in health upsets like indigestion, injuries,and issues. Creating a Code of Conduct helps you make better choices and decisions. Reading this blog and talking to a few seasoned cruise coaches can go a long way in preparing your body, mind, and spirit to plan and prepare for a fun cruise. People who live an unhealthy lifestyle are often the most likely to be tempted by the Dirty Dozen that Damage, Destroy, and Downgrade Health. Unfortunately, in our modern society, the Big Food industries have swapped healthy, nutrient-dense, whole foods with many fake, fast, fried, and Frankenstein foods. As a result of these Unhealthy Wellness Wrecking Zombie fake foods many people are dealing with chronic diseases and health issues. But even fairly healthy people can be brainwashed and hypnotized by the big buffets and fancy food options. Our behaviors and beliefs determine our eating habits and health lifestyle. What we decide and define before a cruise will have a big influence on what happens during the cruise and for life. Common sense and cruise coaching and creating a cruise code of conduct will help set the stage for a happy, healthy and in harmony cruise experience

The food factors and health habits you are about to learn can easily eliminate or greatly reduce the incidence and severity of most of the health challenges and issues that prove problematic for people. The fake food industry does not want you to know the proven principles and smart strategies to avoid the big problems that come from little choices regarding beverages and foods. By being prepared and proactive prior to your cruise you can avoid many of the temptations that trick your taste buds and thinking.

The Dirty Dozen of fake, fast, fried, and Frankenstein foods are the corrupt characters in the chapters of our modern medical mystery that reveals how people are developing disease and dying in droves after compromising their immune system and then turning to medical and pharmaceutical interventions for relief. When you invest the time to research ingredients and processing procedures it becomes self evident why we are struggling with an epidemic of chronic disease and health issues.

Avoid the Dirty Dozen to Attract more Financial Freedom and Fun

This list represents the top twelve beverages and foods that you want to avoid if your happiness, health, and healing potential are important:

  • Alcoholic beverages and alcohol packages are one of the Dirty Dozen to avoid because alcohol is a depressant and toxic to the liver. Alcohol is expensive and you will be better off avoiding it and using the money you save to buy healthy supplements and vitamins.
  • Artificial Synthetic Sweeteners in the blue pink yellow packages are a significant health hazard. Avoid them like your life depends on it because it does.
  • Bagels, bread, cakes, donuts, pancakes, pastries, rolls, toast, and waffles are best avoided. It is too easy to fill up on these items and eat less of the healthy foods, fruits, and vegetables your body needs.
  • Cereals are typically high in sugar and low in nutritional value.
  • Fake Beverages like synthetic fruit flavored drinks and soy milk plus Fake Foods like chemical concoction soft ice cream, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), and jello.
  • Frankenstein foods that contain Genetically Engineered (GE) and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) canola, corn, and soy. Avoid Artificial flavorings and MSG.
  • Fried foods are important to avoid because the oil breaks down under the high temperatures.
  • Late night eating puts strain and stress on your body and digestive system. Most people eat too late and too much which is extremely difficult on the digestive system.
  • Sodas and diet sodas are health hazards for many reasons. The chemicals, sugars, and synthetic ingredients are health hazards.
  • Sugar should be avoided because it sends a sugar shock to your blood sugar. It is better to eat raw fruit or use honey than to consume sugar.
  • Sugar-free Desserts are typically made with Artificial Synthetic Sweeteners that are much worse for you than sugar.
  • Table salt (NaCl) should be avoided for many reasons. Table salt is an industrial chemical that is not fit for human consumption. Humans benefit from raw sea salt and have been consuming it generously for thousands of years.
