Lush Belize

Welcome to our Belize Eco Village Bulletin 22 update. We are eager to connect with eco-friendly-minded people who share our values, virtues, and visions. If you are inspired and interested in our Belize Eco Village (BEV) project for a healthy lifestyle and investment opportunity, please get in touch with us. This blog offers a long overdue progress report to share some exciting information about new directions and next steps.  During the crazy coronavirus conditions, we learned without the right person to oversee progress, it is impossible to move forward with our plans.  Despite many trips to Belize, we experienced compounding problems and invested more money than planned because everything required boots-on-the-ground supervision. After experiencing the highs and lows of construction problems and progress, it is time to find a developer/ investor who will take charge and set up operations on-site.

My recent trip to Belize was from August 24 to September 2, 2023. Luckily the water lines, house water pump, and well pump were installed in February 2020, so the two houses had water for the caretaker and guests. We had a potential investor visit to inspect our land and our progress. We delivered three computers to Sadie Coleman the new principal of St. Jude RC School in Maya Center Village. Our BEV is behind schedule due to the crazy coronavirus conditions because no additional trips occurred between early 2020 and August 2023. One of our main goals for this trip was to attend the Belize Investment Summit 2023 to network and promote our project to developers and investors. The Stann Creek district is one of the major growth areas for Belize.

Life Lessons Learned

Everything can take three times longer and cost two to three times more than you might estimate when doing business in Belize. After many hard knocks and life lessons learned, we made progress and laid the foundation for more progress in the future. Finding the right property at the right price in the right location took a five-year investment of energy, money, and time. Buying the property and receiving the title took another three years. To improve the roads, prepare the land, and install electricity took another year. Blueprints, construction, and permits required another two years to complete two houses with septic and water. Thanks to our efforts, we will save the new developer at least 5 years. We are now considered a shovel-ready project by Beltraide, and promoted our project at the Belize Investment Summit 2023 in San Pedro, Belize.

Stabilized Compressed Earth Block (SCEB) Homes

Our first two Stabilized Compressed Earth Block (SCEB) homes are completed and continue to wow visitors. We finished the well and submersible pump, installed the water lines to the 660-gallon holding tanks, and hooked up the pressure pump to the house in 2020. These earth-block homes look great and turn out better than we expected. They stay much cooler than concrete block homes, which is a major benefit in tropical Belize. To be even more cost, labor, material, and time-efficient building homes, we are doing additional research on dome homes and concrete homes with new materials and methods. We have several months during the rainy season to determine what will best meet our investors’ needs.

Paths of Progress

The Hummingbird Highway major upgrade project has been completed, and the new bridges and roadways are amazing.  The new construction cut at least 20 minutes off the trip from Belmopan to Maya Centre Village, making things safer for travelers. The new Coastal Highway project has been completed and is fantastic. With the new coastal highway completed, this route cut over one hour off of the trip from Maya Centre Village to the Belize City airport because we no longer need to take the Hummingbird Highway route through Belmopan. All of the paths of progress and road improvements will help make our land and project in the Stann Creek district even more appealing to visitors to Belize and our Belize Eco Village project. Now is the perfect time to check out Belize and our BEV project.

BEV Project is Developer Shovel Ready

After buying the 149-acre BEV property in February 2015, we are now “shovel-ready” for investor capital. We completed the land search, acquisition, and title (phase 1). We moved forward with the electricity, two houses with septic systems, and the water well completed (phase 2). The BelizeInvest Executive Investment Summary (EIS) is available for review. We seek to attract an experienced developer and investor (phase 3). It is time to find a developer dream team to lead us to the next phase: Land Plan, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and put a management team in place (phase 4). We are ready to attract an eco-friendly developer and investor, so now is a great time to introduce us if you know someone.

We purchased the adjoining 486-acre property to the south in Feb 2016. We are ready for an investor to step in with the vision, land plan, and timeline to make things happen. The combined 640-acre project is listed on the BelizeInvest – Beltraide website. See our Executive Investment Summary, and please share it.

Projects

During COVID, our caretaker planted coconut trees, food, and herbal plants in the gardens.  The plantings include banana, mango, okra, pineapple, plantain, and soursop. We also contracted with a crew to reclear the entire property boundary line of the 149-acre property with a chainsaw and machetes. It is amazing how quickly the jungle and trees grow and begin to reclaim the property. We are discussing contracting for an additional culvert and entrance off of the Southern highway to improve our development. We also need to do some additional maintenance on our internal roads to the two houses and around the property. On this trip to Belize, we bought furniture, paid land taxes, identified new projects, and contracted with our electrician to upgrade the outdoor lighting. We also delivered three computers to Maya Centre Village and enjoyed authentic, delicious Maya cuisine with friends.

Future Potential Projects

We believe EcoShell 1 domes will provide an even more affordable, healthy, and sustainable home at a better price. Remember, we appreciate your feedback and ideas to help direct our decisions. We had planned to build two EcoShell 1 dome homes, and we contracted with an architect and builder to start after the rainy season ended in 2020. Unfortunately, COVID-19 occurred, and we had to put our construction plans on hold.  After this trip, we are regrouping and figuring out a new start date to begin the two dome homes. Due to the rainy season, we must wait until the next dry season in 2024 to begin construction. We are still investigating the feasibility of digging two ponds to raise ducks and tilapia.

Belize Investment Summit 2023

After serious soul-searching, we made the difficult decision to sell our land and project. We want to attract the right investor to take the lead. BTW after ten years of being focused on Belize, the blood, sweat, tears, and years have taken a toll.  After learning many powerful life lessons and after forming many personal contacts, it is time for new people to take charge. The project is now shovel-ready for the right team to take over and move the project forward faster. See the Beltraide Executive Investment Summary for more details regarding our Belize land for sale. We attended the 3-day Belize Investment Summit 2023 in San Pedro Ambergris Caye to network and promote the project. We are discussing with four potential investors to acquire the land and move forward.
