My dilemma is to decide if we should use biodigester tanks, compost toilets or septic tanks in our eco community. How do we deal with human waste and avoid polluting the air, land and water? In honor of Earth Day it seemed appropriate to ponder these questions. As a long term environmentalist and eager eco developer, designing an eco friendly and green development based on regeneration beyond sustainability has become a big part of my leadership  lifestyle and passion purpose. It is my passion project to investigate, research and understand various building designs,  materials and styles to determine what will best serve our businesses, homes and projects in our Belize Eco Village. Building materials that are clean, green, renewable, safe and sustainable will definitely play a prominent role in our master planned community. We are committed to creating an aesthetically appealing, eco environmentally friendly, financially sound and sensibly sustainable Belize Eco Village community on 149+ acres of Caribbean pine and riparian forest land.

Human Waste and Waste Water?

Belize Eco Village

Did you know that dealing with human waste and waste water is one of the most complex, perplexing and polluting issues around the world? As part of my research for the Belize Eco Village and Wellness center it is vital to investigate other projects for ideas, insights and inspiration for dealing with human waste and waste water. My current focus is on learning about Caribbean and Central America resources and role models for handling both black and grey water waste systems. The goal is to determine a way to blend the best of the best different waste treatment ideas for our eco community projects. Recently we visited the Ahau Tulum, Carmelita Gardens, Monkey Bay and Sattva Land eco projects and learned different approaches in regards to waste and waste water management and treatment. Each of them offer a great business success and sustainability role model having put a lot of effort and thought into their project. They have built a variety of buildings with clever styling and various local building materials.

I am impressed and inspired by their master plans that have evolved with a key focus on regenerative, renewable and sustainability components. They each have a good idea and vision regarding what it means for a business and community to be successful and sustainable. The owners have traveled to many countries and destinations to understand eco communities and what people are looking for. Their master plans and websites promote eco friendly, green and sustainable and they walk the talk. They are currently putting energy, money and time into creating, designing and researching  eco community development and freely share their information. They comply with and exceed the environmental guidelines for habitat preservation and protection. Learning about their construction materials and methods will benefit us with updated and upgraded details to create a higher standard of regeneration beyond sustainability for our Belize Eco Village.

Their buildings are designed to require minimal concrete and more local material to be more eco friendly and efficient. Their awareness of green building, LEED and passive design features creates an opportunity for optimal design for efficiency and sustainability. Using a bio-digester, compost toilet, passive solar water heaters, rain catch, septic tank, solar panels and soon Stabilized Compressed Earth Blocks (SCEB) represents a quantum leap forward. Properly designed homes will be comfortable and cool without large Air Conditioning (AC) units and only require a ceiling fan or use a small zone AC unit. Maintaining a reasonable amount of land for community gardens, green space and permaculutre principles will help create a Garden of Eden appearance and appreciation. By updating and upgrading building materials, methods and mindset we can all be even more eco friendly and regenerative beyond sustainability for the future.

Sustainable Waste Systems

As more ecologically friendly and passionate people put their heads and hearts together it will soon appear self evident that one of the most environmentally friendly and financially feasible long term solutions will be to use a combination of compost toilets and biodigester tanks. These systems are extremely energy efficient and eco friendly because they produce the best results while being locally sourced, long lasting and low cost long term. These systems can reasonably expect to last for over a hundred years with minimal care and maintenance. This is another reason that compost toilets and biodigester tanks will be chosen as the waste water treatment of choice. Learn more the three systems we will be installing and testing by clicking on the links for: biodigester from SEPTI-K , compost toilets from Sun-Mar and the Pirana septic tank technolog. Your education and experience will help us make better choices.

Regeneration Beyond Sustainability Code of Conduct

Sharing their ideas and intentions for guests and residents to follow will help with our guidelines and home owners manual for safety, self sufficiency and sustainability. We will avoid spraying synthetic chemical compounds like fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides on our property. These synthetic chemical compounds are toxic to people, plants and the planet. It is obvious the long and short tern consequences are too risky to the animals, babies, bats, bees, birds, butterflies and beautiful people living in our community to allow the use of toxic cleaning and outdoor products. We will maintain very high standards for living in a chemical and toxin free environment to protect the air, food, homes, soil and water. We will support holistic health and natural nutrition by adopting leading edge permaculture, regenerative, renewable and sustainable principles with a Declaration of Protective and Restrictive Covenants and Design Standards.
