Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale is one of the fathers of the attitude of gratitude and positive mental attitude (PMA) energy psychology movement. He did extensive analysis, interviews, and research into all forms of cancer and disease to determine the common threads and links of what caused, contributed to, and correlated with these health issues. He was able to find and identify specific patterns of behavior, beliefs, emotions, and thinking that played significant roles in a person’s failure, frustration, or success.

Dr. Peale wrote several excellent books to help others better understand the potential power of their energy psychology and positive mental attitude. He wrote many books on the power of a Positive Mental Attitude, including: The Power of Positive Thinking, You Can If You Think You Can, and The Power of Positive Living.  His life’s work was dedicated to helping people understand the potential and power of maintaining a positive mental attitude. Maintaining an attitude of gratitude is one of the best ways to keep a positive mental attitude because feeling grateful can override disempowering and negative emotions.

“Start and end every day, and in between times, too, by thanking God for everything.”—Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

Bernie Siegel, M.D.

Dr. Bernie Siegel, M.D. specialized in internal medicine and became a well-respected authority on helping people with natural strategies to help them heal from cancer and other diseases. Dr. Siegel promoted that being cheerful, grateful, happy, laughing, loving, positive, and smiling improved a person’s immune system and longevity. He believed in the power of a positive attitude, speech, and thoughts to help turn on our epigenetics which is the signal to our emotions and genes which are key to turn on our healthy gene switches. He would have patients draw or paint pictures to gain insight into their emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual issues and needs. He would listen to patients and tell them stories to give them hidden messages. By using an attitude of gratitude and neurolinguistic programming he could plant seeds of health and hope to help them. He believed what the mind focuses on and pictures the body believes and responds to. He taught patients and readers that how you act changes your chemistry.
He taught programs on HOPE therapy because he had found it worked better than chemotherapy, drugs, and surgery for health and healing.

He taught and wrote about how our beliefs and our language determine our reality. Our dreams and our inner wisdom are here to guide us and help us make better choices and decisions. Even colors are very meaningful and can help reveal our consciousness and subconscious attitudes and beliefs.  Dr. Siegel was a big proponent of saying affirmations, incantations, and other positive things  He would teach his patients to say things like I am happy, I am healthy, I love my life and I am free of complaints.

Much like the discussion about Dr. Ryke G. Hamer in the previous blog, Dr. Siegel believed that emotional negativity, shock, and trauma created an invisible weakness and wound that would negatively impact our cells and health. These negative emotions would eventually cause damage, disease, and disharmony.

Some of his ideas include affirmations, clearly defining goals, joining a Master Mind group, organized planning. positive mental attitude, and visualization, Step 3 of his 13 steps for success was the power of Autosuggestion. He recommends using positive affirmations and self-talk to reinforce your beliefs and goals. When our body, mind, and spirit are optimally directed, focused, trained, and utilized, we are unbeatable and unstoppable. When our brain is tapped into the quantum universe we have access to ideas, information, and inspiration that can provide us with superpowers to calculate, create, design, and manifest our destiny and dreams. A daily attitude of gratitude will reinforce how many things you have to be grateful for and this will help propel your peak performance and sustained success.

Attitude of Gratitude

We are responsible for everything that happens in our life. Our choices and decisions have consequences, some we will be happy about, and many we will be unhappy about. Our quality of life depends on the mental attitude we hold most dear and near to us the most often. By having an attitude of gratitude we program our body, mind, and spirit for more positive behaviors, belief systems, and biodynamics that will determine our level of happiness, health, success, and well-being.
