In Boomer Exercise and Fitness Part 2 you learned about how important it is to stop eating fake foods, fast foods and junk foods and start eating nutrient dense organic whole foods and super foods for perfect health. This post will go into great detail on what foods are aging foods and why it is essential for you to be avoiding aging foods.

Before we move forward with aging foods there are important foods facts to understand before you should decide to eat them or not.

Q: What type of seed grew the plant?

A: Choosing organic ancient, heirloom and non altered natural seeds suited to your climate zone is your first choice. Use caution with some modern hybrid plants/ seeds which may actually weaken the plant vitality such as seedless grapes, oranges and watermelon. Avoiding all GE and GMO “Frankenseeds” is a key step to avoiding unproven biotechnology based on using harmful poisons and toxins to grow food.

Q: How and where was the plant grown?

A: Choosing organic local farmers using natural, rotational and sustainable methods to enhance the food and enrich the soil is smart. Avoiding foods grown with chemical fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides by giant mono culture factory farms and the mega food conglomerates is also smart. Heavy use of commercial fertilizers and fossil fuels is not good for you or the environment and is not sustainable.

Q: How long was it in transit? How is it stored?

A: Fresh local produce is best for you and helps protect the environment. Eat foods that are naturally matured on the plant for maximum nutrient content and freshly harvested. Foods harvested early have a much lower antioxidant, mineral, trace element, phyto-nutrient and vitamin content and offers much less of the potential nutrients and life force. Being shipped long distances allows nutrients to breakdown and many chemicals are often used making food even less healthy.

Even healthy foods that are stored improperly tend to break down, go rancid and loose valuable nutrients which can greatly reduce their health properties. Healthy foods can turn into unhealthy foods when not stored properly. As an example olive oil needs to be in a dark bottle and kept cool to prevent light and heat from damaging and oxidizing it into unhealthy rancid oil.

Q: How is it processed?

A: Read the labels and learn about food processing and production. Determine if the ingredients have been highly heated, processed and refined. These processes break down the nutrients even further and may also create harmful compounds in the food which are unhealthy. Find out what additives, chemicals and ingredients are added during the manufacturing process. Any artificial additives, colorings, flavorings, fragrances, preservatives and sweeteners should be avoided. Remember less (processing) is best and fresher is better.

Q: How and by whom is it being prepared?

A: Before you choose to buy a food item (market or restaurant) thinking about how the food is to be prepared is very important. Boiled, broiled, fried, grilled foods and micro-waved foods tend to destroy nutrients and should be avoided. The best foods are those being consumed raw or prepared with minimal heating at a low temperature (below 118 degrees Fahrenheit) to preserve and protect the enzymes and nutrients. There are some foods that are easier to consume cooked like chickpeas, dried beans, lentils and brown rice. Even these foods can be soaked in water overnight, drained and then heated on low temperatures with a crock pot for great results.

It is important for the food to be prepared with love and positive intentions like a mom would prepare for her family to ensure the foods have good vibes. Learning more about the old fashion Asian, European and Hispanic cultures cooking philosophy will help raise your standards for higher quality foods and preparation methods.

Is it safe or is it a poison or toxin?

Is It Safe?

Q: Is it proven safe to eat? How much testing has been done?

A: Has the food been eaten for centuries or at least decades by animals and humans safely? Or is it part of a risky laboratory science experiment created by scientists for humans to serve as the guinea pigs. Many people are unknowingly being used as test subjects by research and development labs in very dangerous experiments. Even if the food company says the food has been tested on mice or rats it may be faulty data manipulated to falsely calm your concerns and hide the facts. GMO corn has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats yet the scientists say it is the same as non GMO corn. When you follow the money trail you will understand why they will say anything to convince you GMO’s are safe. Avoid all artificial ingredients, colorings, flavorings, preservatives, seasonings (MSG) and sweeteners.

Unfortunately there are many companies and people that care more about product shelf life and profits than they do about people and the planet. Following a misguided belief in “better living through artificial ingredients, biotechnology genetic engineering and synthetic chemistry” it is easy for them to grow and manufacture foods that look, smell and taste great even though they are totally unhealthy and quite harmful.

At this point you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed and thinking this is too much information to gather about foods before consuming them.
What other choice do you have? If “You are what you eat” then what are the consequences to you and your family if you do not do your homework and research.

You and your family may enjoy eating some sweet and tasty fake food and end up failing the final examine and lose your life to cancer, diabetes, heart attack or stroke. It is imperative you develop the intuition, knowledge and skills to quickly determine if a food choice is good for you or not. Your health and wealth is your responsibility and too important to delegate to the Big Agriculture, Biotechnology companies, CDC, FDA, USDA or other government agencies.

Food choices really can be described as life or death decisions. Consuming anti-aging foods for perfect health or aging foods for disease and death is your choice. Look around you at the people who are struggling with disease and obesity and you will quickly recognize how many of them are making poor food and lifestyle choices. Health issues cause more bankruptcies in the US than anything else so protect your health and wealth at the same time.

CAFO animals are feed diets with antibiotics, hormones, GMO grains and other unhealthy compounds.

Obvious Danger Signs and Warnings:

Bagged, boxed, canned and packaged foods are intended for long shelf life and are usually highly heated which destroyed nutrients.

Fake foods, fast foods and junk foods typically do not have full ingredient disclosure or preparation information.

Fair trade labeling help determine if the labor and food source is fairly paid and treated for their labors. Many foods come from non fair trade sources.

Farmed Fish are typically fed a non natural diet with additives, antibiotics and chemicals. Farmed salmon are fed a food coloring to give them that salmon color. Small wild fish like anchovies, herring, mackerel and sardines also contain less mercury.

Foods harvested early and shipped long distances are a concern.

Foods that are Boiled, Broiled, Fried, Grilled, Micro-waved and overcooked are less nutritious.

GE or GMO are red flag alarms and warnings. Since this is not required in the US this is a big challenge. If it does not say organic and it contains canola, corn, corn syrup, soy, or sugar beets the chances are extremely high it contains GMO. Just say No to all possible GMO foods and find safer alternative food choices.

Food labels provide valuable information so read them.

Be sure you are reading the ingredients label before buying.

Ingredient labels – Read the fine print of all ingredients before you buy. Extremely fine print, lack of details or use of words you cannot pronounce are clues it is probably not a healthy food for you. The ingredients are listed in the order of most to least ingredient amount. Many sugars are listed under different names to deceive you as to the total quantity in a food.

Plastic bags, bottles and containers have many risks. Compounds like BPA, BPS, Dioxins, PVC, styrene and others may leach into the contents and disrupt your hormones. Bottle water is a major concern due to the water source and leaching of contaminants. Also plastic is one of the major causes of global pollution.

Refined Sugar and High Fructose Corny Syrup (HFCS) are major contributors to diabetes and obesity. Avoid them both like the plague.

Soil quality – Most commercial foods are from mineral depleted soil with excessive top soil erosion. Look for organic, perma-culture and sustainable as clues for better choices.

Synthetic chemicals and fertilizers are used on most commercial farms and are a serious risk to you and the environment. They contaminate the food, the waters and you. They end up in the lakes, rivers and oceans and are destroying our life supporting ecosystems.

Toxic fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides contaminate the food, our waters and you.

Trans fats and hydrogenated oils listed are signals to avoid it. Avoiding baked goods, donuts, margarine, muffins, peanut butter and other foods containing hydrogenated oils and trans fats is essential for your health and longevity.

Vegetable oils are usually from GMO sources (canola, corn, cotton seed, soy) and highly heated and treated with chemicals. The result is oil that is more similar to a paint or plastic than an oil for human consumption. Choose extra virgin coconut, grape seed and olive oil.

Caveat Emptor

As you can clearly see today more than ever it is imperative to proceed with caution when eating out or shopping for foods. “Caveat Emptor” means let the buyer beware in Latin. It is becoming much more difficult to find the nutrient dense organic whole foods that deliver 100% of their potential antioxidants, enzymes, minerals, phyto-nutrients, trace elements and vitamins because of all the above mentioned issues.

In Boomer Exercise and Fitness Part 4 you received some important insights that most people might read quickly and zip right by without fully understanding the full meaning and ramifications. Therefore it is worth mentioning again here in this blog post how important it is to pay close attention. Read this next sentence carefully and slowly to really understand the deep implications.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) – alfalfa seeds, canola, corn, cottonseed, fish, papaya, potato, rice, soy, wheat, zucchini
Boiled, broiled, fried, gilled foods and foods cooked at high temps.
Foods picked early and ripened with chemicals, gas or treatments
Foods sprayed with fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides
Highly refined and processed foods
Processed fats and oils (canola, corn, margarine, peanut, soy, vegetable,
Sodas
Spices and synthetic additives, colorings, flavorings, fragrances, MSG and preservatives (nitrates, nitrites and sulfides).
Sugar – High fructose corn syrup, refined beet or cane sugar,
Wheat containing anti-nutrients,  gluten and phytic acids which should be soaked, sprouted and soured before being consumed in bread, cereal, flour and pasta.
