This is a timely post because many people are asking me about soy and eating more soy thinking it is healthy. They also believe it is better for the planet as part of a plant based diet. Unfortunately many people eating soy are confused because they do not understand the big picture and full story about GMO soy and soy products. While some soy can be a healthy food we are about to learn why most of the time it is unhealthy for us. This post will answer Are Soy Products Health Hazards and share simple suggestions to help you make better soy choices.

Many soy products present significant health risks that can contribute to untimely death and debilitating disease. We are what we eat so it is very important to have helpful guidelines and information to help us make better food choices.
Soy products can be harmful for many reasons. Based on diverse factors concerning the farm, fertilizer, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, processing, refining, seeds and soil, soy can be a harmful or healthy food choice. Many people are eating more soy by choice and many more are unknowingly consuming soy in many processed foods. Therefore it is essential to research and understand soy further before accepting or eating it as a healthy food choice.
There is a big difference between organic soy that is properly fermented and prepared and GMO soy grown on big commercial farms using biotechnology, chemicals and Genetically Engineered (GE) or Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) seeds. There is also a significant difference between ancient slow soy fermentation methods and modern rapid production methods.
Commercial food producers extract the oil from soy beans to make cheap commercial soy oil used for cooking and processed foods and industrial use like paints. The remaining soy bean cake is subject to high heating and treating with chemicals in order to make it into soy protein powder that is used in many fake, fast and junk food products promoted as healthy. Denatured soy protein powder is used in baby formula, breads, cakes, cookies, diet foods, energy bars, fake meats, granola bars, muffins, protein bars, protein shakes, Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP), tofu and vegetarian burgers, dishes and meatballs.
Modern commercial food growers are determined to grow and sell biotechnology Frankenfoods (GE/GMO seeds) grown with toxic chemicals (fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides). Then the big conglomerate food manufactures scientifically create concoctions (fake, fast and junk foods) in laboratories to appear appealing, convenient and healthy when in fact they are not. Commercial food production uses artificial chemical additives, colorings, flavor enhancers, High Fructose Corn syrup (HFCS), preservatives, sweeteners and vitamins to create food like soy products. They have found creative ways to cut corners for high profits and long shelf life instead of better energy, health, nutrition and vitality.
The commercial agriculture industry and Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have joined forces to support each other in brainwashing the public into believing and buying their Baloney Story (BS) about soy. Without full disclosure and information the public is unable to read the ingredients and understand the processing and refining technology (similar to a chemical refinery) being used to create the fake, fast and junk soy products sold to naive consumers.
Without full disclosure and transparency regarding ingredients and processing methods the public is at a significant disadvantage for buying decisions about commercial soy products. This makes it extremely difficult to make educated buying decisions about which foods will actually harm or help their health. Our health depends on eating clean, healthy, nutrient dense organic whole foods. Unfortunately most soy products are being grown and produced in such a way as to actually be a health hazard for people and the planet.
What is Wrong with GMO Soy?
Big commercial farms growing Genetically Engineered (GE) and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) soy use an unnatural seed that has been altered by genetic engineering to be resistant to toxic herbicides like Roundup containing Glyphosate. These farmers use large doses of toxic chemical fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides (Glyphosate), insecticides and pesticides. These contaminate the air, food, soil and water. Consuming GMO soy is exposing us to large amounts of dangerous synthetic toxic chemicals and compounds.
For decades doctors, researchers and scientists have known that this chemical contamination is bad for us and our environment. These toxins are leading causes of many diseases and health problems. Modern food growing and food processing with these synthetic chemicals turns what could be a healthy soy product into a toxic one significantly contributing to health problems like: cancer, cell damage, chronic disease, diabetes, DNA disruption, hormone issues, learning problems, mental impairment, obesity and much more. Commercial and highly processed GMO soy is exposing billions of people to unhealthy chemicals and compounds.
Most consumers are brainwashed and confused regarding the health benefits of soy products. Due to deceptive dietary details, marketing manipulation and misdirected government programs the people, planet and plants are being pilled, poisoned and polluted at dangerous levels. The billion dollar agriculture and food industries in cooperation with government agencies are committed to influencing our behaviors, beliefs and buying habits regarding soy products. They use Asia and Japan as references for soy being healthy even though they are not providing an organic and properly fermented soy food like they do in those countries.
Instead soy producers in the US set us up for disease and health problems with unhealthy GMO soy beans and high technology manufacturing. It is very obvious when you do the research on GMO soy beans containing herbicides and the harsh refining process involving chemicals, denatured, extruded, heated and treated soy. The classic and time tested natural method uses organic soy beans that are properly cultured and fermented to make healthy miso, natto, soy milk, soy sauce, tempeh and tofu.
Green soy beans (edamame) are a good choice. Once the soy bean is dried into a yellow soy bean pea it must be cultured and fermented to deactivate the antinutrient compounds like phytate and produce a healthy food. These compounds are nature’s way of protecting a plant from being destroyed or eaten out of existence. Healthy soy foods need organic farming, ingredients, minimal processing, natural seeds and minimal preparation. Unfortunately companies in the US feel we are not worth the effort or time to prepare soy the old fashioned fermented way which can takes several months so they cut corners to create fake, fast and junk foods that harm our body and brain. Our brain, endocrine system, immune system, nerves and reproductive cells are highly susceptible to damage by contaminated soy products we consume.
Common sense would advise us to avoid chemical toxins, GMO seeds and highly processed, refined and treated fake foods like commercial soy. Unfortunately marketers know how to by pass our intuition and influence our conscious mind with advertising propaganda, synthetic additives, flavor enhancers, food colorings, preservatives and sugar to shut our defenses down.
Our body craves nutrient dense organic whole foods to be happy and healthy. Most people feel too busy and tired to invest the energy and time to research what they are buying and putting in their body. Trusting the big companies and USDA to tell us how and what to eat is a recipe for pill popping poisoned polluted pie that will damage and destroy our emotional, mental and physical health.
It is up to each of us to do the reading and research necessary before we buy and eat soy products made into fake, fast and junk Frankenfoods. Not investing time for our health and nutrition can lead to financial disaster from the disability, disease and sickness that can occur. When we make great food choices we will be rewarded with great energy, health, vitality and well being. Contaminated and genetically modified soy can cause long term damage and disruption that sets us up for cancer, diabetes, genetic damage, obesity and other preventable diseases. We must choose nutrient dense organic whole foods rich in antioxidants, beneficial bacteria, enzymes, minerals, nutrients, phyto-nutrients, trace elements and vitamins.
Are Soy Products Health Hazards?
Unfortunately the majority of commercial soy products are. While many companies, individuals and organizations downplay the dangers and risks of commercial soy products it is well documented that most will have a negative impact on our health and well being. Approximately 90% of commercial soy is GMO and the farmers use synthetic chemicals and compounds such as fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides liberally. Then the commercial fake food manufacturers denature, chemically alter, extrude, heat, process, refine and treat the soy even further with additional chemicals and compounds during cooking, packaging, pasteurizing, preserving, storing and transporting. These fake, fast and junk food scientific experiments result in soy products that look and smell very tempting. They are sold and served to human guinea pigs as health foods created by modern science and technology even though they are unhealthy.
As more people realize that big commercial food companies will sell anything to make big bucks the tide will turn and we will revert back to more nutrient dense organic whole foods to protect our health. The negative consequences of consuming artificial and unnatural fake food additives, chemicals, colorings, flavor enhancer, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), herbicides, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), pesticides, preservatives, over processed and refined, sugars and unhealthy ingredients is not worth the risking your life. We must educate and encourage others to choose locally grown organic whole foods for optimal health.
Stop Buying Harmful Soy Products
Buying unhealthy soy products hurts our health while supporting the unhealthy commercial food companies which will gladly take our money. When we consume improperly prepared or GMO soy products we are being poisoned by harmful chemicals and compounds. These toxic chemicals will erode your energy, health and vitality and result in big medical bills and serious long term health consequences. Most commercial soy products are a health hazard due to the GMO soy beans, harmful herbicides and industrial processing and refining. There are also antinutrient compounds and enzyme inhibitors in dried soy beans that can cause digestion and health issues. Be sure to choose nutrient dense organic soy foods that have been properly fermented and prepared.
Avoid commercial soy products grown, prepared or produced using unhealthy:
- Chemicals (fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides)
- High temperature cooking, irradiation or micro waving
- Genetically Engineered (GE) and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) soy beans.
- Processed soy products which contain GE or GMO canola, corn or soy including High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS),
- Soy products with synthetic: additives, chemicals, colorings, flavor enhancers, minerals, Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), preservatives or vitamins.
- Highly processed and refined soy products containing HFCS, sugars and table salt (NaCl)

After we say no to GMO soy and stop buying commercial soy products we may choose to start buying nutrient dense organic soy products that are naturally fermented and properly prepared. Simple choices for nutritious soy products include:
- Buy organic soy edamame (green soy beans) in season from local farmers markets
- Plant an organic soy bean garden. The leaves and green soy bean pods are edible raw or slightly steamed.
- For centuries people in Asia have cultured and fermented soy beans into nutritious foods like miso, natto, soy milk, soy sauce, tempeh and tofu
- Moderation is important when consuming soy. Many people are allergic to commercial soy products so consider other plant based food choices for protein such as amaranth, chia, hemp, moringa, quiona and sesame.
